Technology Research Centers and Conferences

Wharton research centers and conferences are catalysts for new ideas on emerging technologies and their business impact, drawing together faculty, technology experts, business leaders, policy-makers, and entrepreneurs.

Center for Technological Innovation

The William and Phyllis Mack Center for Technological Innovation provides a forum to investigate critical issues, debate research, and plan future study. It serves as the umbrella organization for technology management initiatives at Wharton, including:

  • Emerging Technologies Management Research Program – identifies and explores the best ways for companies to compete, survive, and succeed in the industries that are being created or transformed by emerging technologies.
  • BioSciences Crossroads Initiative – helps senior decision makers better understand the factors that will influence commercialization and deployment of emerging biomedical/life science technologies.
  • Wharton e-Business Initiative (WeBI) – generates and disseminates new knowledge about e-business through research, academic programs, and strategic corporate partnerships.

Technology Conferences

Wharton conferences focusing on technology include:

  • William and Phyllis Mack Center for Technological Innovation – an ongoing series of conferences, updates, and industry-partner events on topics from emerging technologies to the latest developments in biosciences and nanotechnology.
  • Supernova Conference – an annual conference, based in San Francisco and produced in partnership with Wharton, that brings together leading industry influencers to explore emerging technologies and discover innovative new ideas and companies.
  • Wharton Technology Conference – organized by Wharton MBA students, this conference has become one of the largest annual technology events at the university and in the Philadelphia area.

Understanding Our World

Supernova

"I put together the first Supernova conference because, to paraphrase Bob Dylan, we all knew something was happening here, but we didn't know what it was. At Supernova, we bring together business, government, and technology thought leaders to understand how decentralization and pervasive connectivity are changing our world."

Kevin Werbach, Assistant Professor of Legal Studies and Business Ethics; Host of Supernova
