FacultyCafe

FacultyCafé gives Wharton professors the tools to collaborate easily and effectively with colleagues both within the School and around the world.

Building on the success of Wharton’s web-based class management and student collaboration platform, webCafé, Wharton faculty and staff developed a customized version known as facultyCafé in 2004.

Ease and familiarity of the interface, flexibility, and access control have led to an increasing variety of uses by departments across the School.

The activities supported by facultyCafé include:

  • Research. Professors create private electronic “rooms” to share documents and communicate with global research teams that can include faculty from other universities, corporate participants, and other non-Wharton members.
  • Recruiting. Prospective faculty can submit applications online, with their information and materials directed to a secure facultyCafé room for review by the department chairperson.
  • Promotion and tenure review. Features can be customized to the preferred review processes of different departments and working groups.
  • Academic journals. Faculty who serve as editors for academic journals use facultyCafé to organize the document management and review of contributed articles.
  • Conferences. The platform is also being employed as a support tool in organizing annual conferences for academic organizations.
