Technology is an integral part of the student experience, and Wharton Computing takes that very seriously. From printers to Group Study Rooms to configuring devices to accessing the School’s bevy of academic resources, Wharton Computing is here to help and provide guidance.

Wharton Student Computing

The Wharton Student Computing team is dedicated to helping students with any and all technical issues. However, they aren’t merely members of a help desk – they’re IT pros dedicated to providing students with technology advice and training. Located in SH-DH 114 Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m (virtually Monday through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), they are always ready to quickly offer tech support in person, by phone: (215) 898-8600, or online.

Student Technology Satisfaction Survey

Each year Wharton Computing surveys the student population to get their feedback regarding the services we offer and ideas for the future. The feedback we get from students drives our strategy for the year, along with emerging technology trends, and academic program needs. The more we hear from students, the more confident we can be that we are focusing our efforts on addressing issues to deliver the most impact towards a positive student experience with technology at Wharton.

Strategic Partnerships | Students

Wharton Computing’s Strategic Partnerships Team focuses on understanding how technology can enhance and improve the student journey. Aligned with Wharton values, we identify technologies that support and extend the global reach of our students. Through year-round engagement and research, we advocate for student technology needs with IT departments across Wharton and Penn.

Strategic Partnerships employ the following methods and processes to improve the student technology experience:

  • Research and Analysis: We use formal student surveys, peer school surveys, and industry research to identify changing technology needs and trends. From our data, we generate reports and publish findings to share with key departments.
  • Focus Groups and Outreach: We host virtual and live student focus groups each semester to identify unique student needs.
  • New and Existing Technology: We run pilots to evaluate new technology, monitor continuous improvement cycles, and develop upgraded plans based on feedback and research.
  • IT Education Initiatives: Through lunch and learns and orientation classes, we educate students to take full advantage of the IT environment to complement their academic experience.

Canvas Support

Canvas, the University’s Learning Management System (LMS), is used in nearly all classes at Wharton. To access Canvas you must have a valid PennKey. For more information, visit the course materials section of the Student Support Knowledge Base.

Public Technology

Technology can be found throughout the Wharton complex in classrooms, labs, Group Study Rooms (GSRs), and email bars. Wharton Computing’s Public Technology group deploys and maintains all of this technology. They also offer a variety of services that include audio conferencing, lab reservations, and video production or streaming.

Group Study Rooms are located in Huntsman Hall and offer the ideal space for working with a team on a project. These rooms are all equipped with monitors and a computer, along with seating and white boards. GSRs can be reserved via MyWharton.

University Resources

The David B. Weigle Information Commons (WIC), located in the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center, is another great campus resource. WIC holds a variety of tech workshops and demos, houses various facilities students can use for projects, and features an extensive lending library of devices.
